Commonwealth Home Support Programme
CHSP – That little bit of help to keep your independence
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) supports older people who need some assistance with everyday tasks, but do not require higher-level aged care services. CHSP services are generally short-term or low-intensity and are designed to maintain your independence and wellbeing.
CHSP services available through VIVA Mutual
Domestic Assistance
VIVA Mutual provides CHSP-funded domestic assistance to support daily living at home, including:
- General household cleaning
- Laundry and linen support
- Assistance to maintain a safe and comfortable home environment
Allied Health
VIVA Mutual also delivers CHSP-funded allied health supports aimed at maintaining function, mobility and independence.
- Assessment and advice related to mobility, safety and daily activities
- Short-term or targeted interventions focused on maintaining independence
Who can access CHSP?
You may be eligible for CHSP if you:
Are aged 65 years or older
(or 50 years or older for Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people)
Require basic assistance to
continue living independently
at home
Eligibility is determined through a My Aged Care assessment.
How to access CHSP services
Register with My Aged Care

or call 1800 200 422
Complete an assessment
A Regional Assessment Service (RAS) assessor will assess your needs and determine eligibility.
Nominate VIVA Mutual
If approved, you can choose VIVA Mutual as your CHSP provider for approved services.
Fees and client contributions
CHSP services generally involve a client contribution, as set by program guidelines.
VIVA Mutual will:
- Explain any fees before services commence
- Provide clear information about costs
- Ensure contributions align with CHSP requirements
Ongoing support and other options
If your needs change over time, VIVA Mutual can assist you to understand other support options, including:
- Support at Home (government-funded aged care)
- Private-pay services for additional or immediate support
